HP has released a new firmware that affects the CF530 and CF540 series of cartridges used in LaserJet M254, M281, M280 and M180, M181 and M154 printers. This firmware causes the printer to not recognizethe replacement chip inside of aftermarket cartridges and to report an error message. We have a solution forthcoming and more information will be released in the coming week. The firmware version code is “20201021” and the message will come across as: “Supply Problem” and printing cannot be continued.
It is vital that users turn off the Check Automatically and Allow Updates features in HP printer’sservice menu. In this same menu, it is important to turn on the Allow Downgrade feature. Thisdowngrade feature will allow you to use the previous firmware version if available.
1) On the printer interface, swipe the home page and click Setup.
2) Click Service
3) Click LaserJet Update
4) Click Manage Updates
5) Click Check Automatically
6) Click Off, and then press the Home button to return to the main screen.
7) Repeat Steps 1-4 and on the update screen, click Allow Updates
8) Select No
9) Repeat Steps 1-4, and on the update screen, click Allow Downgrade
10) Click Yes
Note that printers manufactured after November 2020 may come with this firmware pre-installed.
